river reflection

sampan on the river

Kuching waterfront

For a small fee of 40¢, men on these motorised sampan carries passengers across the Kuching River to the opposite bank. It is like a lesser version of Venice.. rural scenery blends with recent development in the area. Perhaps back in the days, the sampan was simply a wooden boat with the roof and meant to be rowed. Now it has Astro advertising on the tarp and the oars have become a decoration.

** I love this tongue-in-chic play of the fashion+recession editorial by photographer Craig McDean :)
